Certiport Names Student from Singapore Microsoft Excel 2013 World Champion
The 2015 Microsoft Office Specialist (MOSWC) & Adobe Certified Associate (ACAWC) World Championships organized by Certiport Inc. took place from 9th Aug to 12th Aug 2015 at Gaylord Texan Grapevine Resort in Dallas, Texas, USA.
In its 14th year, the MOSWC attracted 600,000 unique candidates who competed to demonstrate their mastery of Microsoft Office in Word, Excel and PowerPoint & 88,000 entries to compete the top prize in visual communication using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. 145 student finalists from 47 countries including USA, Germany, Australia, Bahamas, Ecuador, UAE, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Macao, Singapore etc. participated in this prestigious event to compete for the No 1. World Championship Title in Microsoft Office Specialist & Adobe Certified Associate.
For MOS, Elliot Tan Yew Han of Singapore was named the 2015 Microsoft Office Specialist World Champion in Microsoft Excel 2013, culminating the most popular technology skills competition on Microsoft Office since its inception in 2002. 20-year old Elliot was sponsored by Certiport Singapore and Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He has won $7,500USD, medal and prizes sponsored by Microsoft and Certiport.
In the concluding round in Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint categories for version 2010 and 2013, competitors participated in unique project-based tests to demonstrate their ability to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations as well as their accuracy and speed in churning out project-based documents on the various software.
"These winners are part of an elite group that know how to use Microsoft Excel efficiently and to its full potential,” said Aaron Osmond, vice president of the global Certiport offering for Pearson VUE. “We are proud to support this competition as a vehicle to promote what the world needs most – young people who possess in-demand workforce skills.”
For Adobe Certified Associate World Championship (ACAWC), Room to Read (http://www.roomtoread.org/) served as the client for student finalists to design a winning banner to best represent their mission and message. Room to Read is a non-profit organization for improving literacy and gender equality in education in the developing world. During the Championship Round, contestants were assigned a banner design challenge from Room to Read to which they responded using Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC and Adobe InDesign CC software.
“We see increasing demand for digital skills worldwide, and number of entries increased in the competition as students realized the benefits of earning Adobe Certified Associate certification to validate in-demand digital design skills,” said Bob Whelan, president and chief executive officer for Pearson VUE.
Team Singapore was represented by students were from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, ITE College West, Crescent Girls’ School and St Hilda’s Secondary competed in all categories of the competition. Other than Elliot Tan, the team also came in top 10 in Word, Excel and PowerPoint 2010.

Certiport will host the 2016 Adobe Certified Associate World Championship in Orlando, Florida, USA from 7- 9 August 2016. The 2016 National rounds for Singapore will opens in Oct 2015.
